The Southern 2MASS AGN Survey: spectroscopic follow-up with 6dF
The Two Micron All-Sky Survey (2MASS) has provided a uniform photometric catalog to search for previously unknown red AGN and QSOs. We have extended the search to the southern equatorial sky by obtaining spectra for 1182 AGN candidates using the Six Degree Field (6dF) multifibre spectrograph on the UK Schmidt Telescope. These were scheduled as auxiliary targets for the 6dF Galaxy Redshift Surve...
متن کاملA Far-Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Survey of Low-Redshift AGN
Using the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) we have obtained 87 spectra of 57 low-redshift (z < 0.15) active galactic nuclei (AGN). This sample comprises 53 Type 1 AGN and 4 Type 2. All the Type 1 objects show broad O vi λ1034 emission; two of the Type 2s show narrow O vi emission. In addition to O vi, we also identify emission lines due to C iii λ977, C iii λ991, S iv λλ1062, 1072,...
متن کاملX-ray Spectral Properties of the Bat Agn Sample
The 9-month SWIFT Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) catalog provides the first unbiased (NH < 10 cm) look at local (< z >= 0.03) AGN. In this paper, we present the collected X-ray properties (0.3 – 12 keV) for the 153 AGN detected. In addition, we examine the X-ray properties for a complete sample of non-beamed sources, above the Galactic plane (b≥ 15). Of these, 45% are best fit by simple power law ...
متن کاملThe 2MASS Red AGN Survey
The Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) provides an unprecedented, uniform photometric data set for large samples of AGN discovered at other wavelengths, and also forms the basis to search for previously unknown, obscured AGN. We present the results of a highly efficient near infrared color-based AGN survey using 2MASS that has already discovered 485 new, red AGN and QSOs. The extrapolated surfac...
متن کاملMid-Infrared line diagnostics of active galaxies A spectroscopic AGN survey with ISO-SWS
We present medium resolution (R ∼ 1500) ISO-SWS 2.4–45 μm spectra of a sample of 29 galaxies with active nuclei. This data set is rich in fine structure emission lines tracing the narrow line regions and (circum-)nuclear star formation regions, and it provides a coherent spectroscopic reference for future extragalactic studies in the mid-infrared. We use the data set to briefly discuss the phys...
